Originally by: Kaeleron Taken from the short story "Forsaken Ruins"
Therein, Veniel explained, the concept of ôImmenseaö was defined: The ôimmense seaö that separates the horrors of yesterday from the utopian bliss of tomorrow. Earthùlike the notion of utopiaùis out there, but a vast physical and spiritual distance must be traversed in order to reach it. ôParadise was always withinö, Moreau had once said. ôAnd so the journey home completes the circle: From one we were defined, and to one we shall return, unbound, and true to our own pure selves.ö
Moreau's followers, now numbering in the thousands, became so passionate about this quest to ôreturn homeö that the task itself began to assume the form of a divine imperative. A massive research initiative was planned with a host of ambitious objectives, which included studies on how to stabilize the EVE gate in New Eden and a fast-track development of jump drives. All they needed was a base from which they could pursue these studies in earnest, far from the prying eyes of governments and ôinstitutional bigotsö. The cost to build even a single station was astronomical, but money, as it turned out, was hardly an obstacle.
Yep, and it also frames how Earth should be thought of perfectly. It is myth, it is holy. It is the place from which humanity sprung and was flung out into the stars. "Reaching Earth", in Moreau's example, is finding inner peace and harmony. If the EVE cluster is New Eden, Earth is the original Eden to these people we play - that sanctified ground from which we all come.
It can't be integrated into character bios too well, though. Nobody in the EVE universe is from Earth. At best, you could build your RP around the "Search" for it (even pump your SOE faction, maybe?), but beyond that there isn't much to do with Earth in an active RP sense right now.
One has to wonder what the ôreturn of the dark light from the heart of the motherö is, though... -------------- What good are actions if there's no one to tell the tale afterward?
